The Keys have announced the team to take on Bridgend on Saturday (28th April) at Pandy Park, in the Principality Premiership fixture. Record Breaking hooker, Garry Horrigan captains the side for the first time and Keys will want to end the season in style by beating the Ravens on Saturday.

Cross Keys squad versus Bridgend (home), Sat. 28th April 2007 K.O. 2.30pm

BACKS COACH TO LEAVE KEYS

Nicky Lloyd, the Keys backs coach will not be renewing his contract with Keys next season. The club would like to thank Nicky for all his hard work and dedication to the Keys over the past 3 seasons and wish him all the best in the future. Meanwhile head coach Robert Beale will become Keys Director of Rugby from next season with current fitness coach Greg Woods taking over the coaching of the forwards. Keys will also make announcement regarding both a replacement for Nicky Lloyd and next seasons squad soon, probably during the pre/close-season.

KEYS GAIN CRUCIAL WIN

Cross Keys wrapped up an important 3 points with victory over Maesteg on Saturday afternoon. Although relegation looks unlikely, due to both Divsion 1 East winners, Beddau and West winners, Bonymaen failing the crieteria audit for entry into the Principality Premiership Keys do not want to finish in the bottom two and Saturdays result means they still have a chance of finishing above the bottom 2. Keys played some nice rugby once again in superb conditions and crossed for a total of 5 tries by David James (x2), whose first try was well worked thanks to a precise kick from Scott Mitchell, James gathered the ball and sprinted clear for his fourth try in as many games. Also crossing in the first half was David Price, who created a neat angle and scored under the posts and full back Jonathan Williams, who also added 2 conversions and a penalty goal. David James' second try in the second half was a great team effort and he fought off the attention of 2 defenders to score his second. Brendon Fisher also crossed in the second half after good work from the Keys pack. The Old Parrish battled hard in the second half but couldn't quite do enough to gain anything from the match. Final score Cross Keys 32 - Maesteg 25. A match summary is available in Results and Fixtures.

FINAL GAME OF SEASON ARRANGED

The Keys will close their season at home to Bridgend on Saturday 28th April. The Ravens were defeated in the Konica Minolta Cup Semi Final to Cardiff so will now travel to Pandy Park on the date previously mentioned instead of the Millennium Stadium. Kick Off 2.30pm.

KEYS DEFEATED BY THE WHITES

Cross Keys face a nervous end of the season as they crashed to their sixth successive defeat, meaning they lie in 13th place (or perhaps more alarmingly one place from bottom!) in the Principality Premiership table. Once again Keys perhaps could have won this entertaining fixture where the lead changed hand no fewer than seven times but can look at their ill-discipline in the last 15 minutes as a key point in the match where Keys led by 29-27 but then Ben Watkins was sent to the sin-bin for a stamp and then Geraint Gladwyn was red carded for an attempted punch just 2 minutes later. From there Swansea were able to create the opportunities that ultimately won them the game and came away with a 41 - 29 victory. Both sides were intent on playing a running, free flowing game in glorious sunshine and Keys scored some excellent quality tries but the pick of the four tries was Gareth Turner's who benefited from an excellent running angle, coupled with a well timed pass from David Price to score in the second half. The Keys must now ultimately defeat Maesteg and Bridgend in the final 2 games of the season, both at Pandy Park to escape the possibility of relegation, although it is not certain what will happen at the end of the season with regards to relegation due to the WRU's crieteria for Premiership entry which Keys have passed and Bedwas, currently comfortably above Keys in the table have failed. A match summary is available in Results and Fixtures.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR SWANSEA GAME

The Keys have announced the team to take on Swansea on Saturday (14th April) at St. Helens, in the Principality Premiership fixture. Rhys Williams returns for The Keys following a toe injury and Gareth Williams is back on the wing for Keys. Dragons Outside half Aled Thomas comes in at outside half for Scott Mitchell who is unavailable.

Replacements: Brendon Fisher, Stuart Vokes, Richard Cornock, Grant Wilson, Colin Bridges, Owen Jones, David Price.

KEYS DEFEATED IN INJURY TIME AT NEWPORT

The Keys can again perhaps count themselves unlucky as they fell to a 20-17 defeat at Rodney Parade in the recent Principality Premiership fixture. Newport certainly had the better opportunities in the opening stages and perhaps the only surprise was that the Black and Ambers only led 8-0 after a quarter of hour of constant pressure on Keys' tryline, the Newport try was scored by former Keys hooker Andrew Brown, the first of his 2 touchdowns on the day. Keys however gradually started to play rugby and thoroughly deserved a well worked try for David James after half an hour, Jonathan Williams kicked a penalty and conversion to give Keys a 10-8 half time lead. The Keys then started the second half brightly and Dan Dark went over close to the posts thanks to a good break from Gareth Turner, Jonathan Williams converting. Keys were hanging on in the closing stages and can perhaps look to the sin-binning of Ebbw Vale bound skipper Will Thomas in the dying minutes, as a crucial moment that might have cost them a memorable and important victory. Newport replacement Richard Dale crashed over the line just seconds after Thomas' yellow card for foul play. A valiant effort by Keys but these narrow and unfortunate defeats must turn into any sort of victory in the closing games. A match summary is available in results and fixtures.

Replacements: Brendon Fisher, Stuart Vokes, Julian Price, Grant Wilson, David Tovey, Ryan James, David Price.

KEYS UNFORTUNATE TO FALL TO DEFEAT AT ABERAVON

Cross Keys put up a brave fight against Aberavon before eventually losing the game by 29 points to 27 The Keys once again seemed to have no luck as the bounce of the ball seemed to do them no favours together with some strange decisions made by the officials, although conceding needless penalties inside a comfortable kicking area does obviously not help when the opposition has one of the most deadly kickers in the Welsh club game in the shape of Jamie Davies. Keys did manage to out score the hosts on try count scoring 3 tries to the wizards double, Garry Horrigan crossed for an incredible 11th league try of the season which saw him move joint top of the Principality Premiership leading try scorers also crossing for Keys were impressive skipper Will Thomas and David James. Jonathan Williams had an excellent day with the boot kicking a total of 12 points. Final Score Aberavon 29 - Cross Keys 27. A match summary is now available in results and fixtures together with details of the Neath and Maesteg fixtures.

BEDWAS DEFEAT KEYS

Bedwas completed a season double over The Keys in the recent Principality Premiership fixture at Pandy Park. Keys failed to take the numerous opportunities they had due to poor decision making and most importantly a determined Bedwas defence. Keys scored a try through Owen Jones, his first for the club and Jonathan Williams kicked the conversion. Yet another frustrating Keys performance which should have produced a victory as Keys probably had around 80% of possesion and territory but couldn't make this count. Final Score Cross Keys 7 - Bedwas 10. A match summary is now available in results and fixtures.

KEYS GAIN REVENGE ON WIZARDS

Cross Keys did enough to gain revenge on Aberavon, who had defeated Keys a week earlier in the Konica Minolta Cup to win an entertaining Principality Premiership fixture despite the poor conditions. The Keys have maintained that the league fixture was the one they would rather win (of the 2 successive home games against the Wizards) and on this evidence the result was not really in doubt. A special mention must go to Garry Horrigan, who has been in superb form all season and with is eleventh try in all games this season passed Bobby Windsor's record for most tries by a hooker in one season for Keys. Jonathan Williams had another solid game at full back and kicked a total of 11 points, through a conversion and a hat-trick of penalties. This was a first win over Aberavon in the post-regional era for the Black and Whites who for so long have struggled against the Wizards. Final Score Cross Keys 16 - Aberavon 10. A match summary can be found in results and fixtures.

WIZARDS SPELL END TO KEYS CUP RUN

Aberavon defeated The Keys to take their place in the quarter finals, in the recent sixth round tie played at Pandy Park last Saturday. Keys will now be seeking immediate revenge for this defeat when they host the same opposition in the Principality Premiership on Saturday 24th February. Aberavon had all but seeled the win at half time taking a 27 points to 3 advantage at the interval, Ryan James kicked Keys only points of the first half with a Penalty. Keys responded well in the Second half, Gareth Williams who was impressive in his first start at full back for The Keys scored both Keys tries whilst David James added a conversion from in front of the posts. Keys will now have 100% concentration on the league as they look to climb the table. A match summary is now available in results and fixtures. Final Score Cross Keys 15 - Aberavon 27.

CRITERIA TEST RESULTS

Cross Keys are delighted to announce that they have passed the marks set in all four areas of the WRU's criteria for Principality Premiership clubs. This is great news for the village and of course the club itself and is a massive credit to everyone involved in acheiving the pass. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE.

HEROIC KEYS WIN AT STRADEY

The Keys produced some superb rugby with conditions to match at Stradey Park to defeat Llanelli last Saturday. Keys discipline (or lack of) was, once again alarming, and red cards were issued to Ryan James (stamping) and Ben Watkins (apparent abuse of referee), Keys also had captain Will Thomas and prop Richard Cornock sin-binned during the game, which makes this result all the more remarkable. All four of Keys' tries were well worked and realistically until Keys were down to 13 men Llanelli didn't really threaten Keys line but managed to pull the scores back to 24 all until Jonathan Williams slotted over a penalty just over 10 minutes from the end. Keys tries were scored by Tom Lampard, Garry Horrigan, Jonathan Hill and Gareth Turner, Horrigan's equalling the great Bobby Windsors record for most tries in one season by any Keys hooker. A match summary is available in results and fixtures. Final Score Llanelli 24 - Cross Keys 27.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR LLANELLI GAME

The Keys have announced the team to take on Llanelli on Saturday afternoon (3rd February) at Stradey Park in the Principality Premiership. KEYS PROGRESS TO LAST 16 OF CUP

Cross Keys had to withstand a mass of second half pressure to overcome a determined and spirited Whitland in the Konica Minolta Cup 5th Round match played last Saturday. Keys had just enough to defeat the Borderers in an entertaining match. Keys scored tries through impressive wing Jonathan Hill (x2), Tom Lampard, who was in superb form in the match and Dan Dark, who later went off injured with a hand injury, Jonathan Williams kicked well in his first game of the season following injury with 3 conversions. Whitland scored tries through full back Lee Glanville and a great try by wing, Dion Thomas, brother of Keys regular and Dragons player Aled. Outside half Aled Davies added 10 points with 2 conversions and 2 penalties. A difficult day for Keys who eventually ran out winners by 26 points to 20. A match summary is available in results and fixtures.

FIRST WIN OF 2007 FOR THE KEYS

The Keys finally got back to winning ways at home to Cardiff last Saturday. Despite Keys not adding to their points total for around 70 minutes they fully deserved this win as they were perhaps a little more determined and disciplined than the visitors. Keys started the game brightly and inside the first 10 minutes had scored 2 tries and looked likely to run away with the 3 points, Garry Horrigan went over following a close range lineout and that was quickly followed by a penalty try that referee, Lynn Davies had little choice in rewarding as Cardiff halted a rolling maul illegally close to the line, make-shift outside half Ryan James, in for late withdrawal Scott Mitchell kicking the extras, to give Keys a 12 - 0 lead. Cardiff hit back with a first half penalty by Craig Evans then a well worked second half try by Nick Gill but Keys continued with pressure only for the Blue and Blacks to regularly clear their line effectively. A special mention for both Ryan James and Lee Humphreys who both played so well out of their usual positions due to the injury suffered by Scott Mitchell prior to Kick Off. The Keys worked hard for this win but there were plenty of positive signs for Keys in this 12 - 8 victory. A match summary can be found in results and fixtures.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR CARDIFF GAME

The Keys have announced the team to take on Cardiff on Saturday afternoon (20th January). Ryan James starts at full back, with Aled Thomas not available as he is on the bench for Newport Gwent Dragons in Bayonne, France. Also Gareth Chapman has travelled as cover for the Dragons so Dan Dark takes his place at centre. Rhys Williams is out with flu, but Keys welcome back skipper Will Thomas for this vital, must win game.

Cross Keys squad versus Cardiff (home), Sat. 20th January 2007

15. Ryan James, 14. Gareth Williams, 13. Gareth Turner, 12. Dan Dark, 11. Marcus Johnstone, 10. Scott Mitchell, 9. Owen Jones.

8. Colin Bridges, 7. Geraint Gladwyn, 6. Ben Watkins, 5. Will Thomas(c), 4. Mark Curtis, 3. Craig Gould, 2. Garry Horrigan, 1. Richard Cornock.

FRIENDLY GAME CANCELLED

Just been informed that the recently arranged friendly between Pill Harriers and The Keys, due to be played this evening has been cancelled. The squad will now train at Pandy Park as usual.

FRIENDLY GAME ADDED

The Keys will travel to Pill Harriers RFC for a friendly game against the Division 2 (East) side this Tuesday evening (16th January), Kick Off 7.00pm. The game has been arranged due to the lack of training and match time that Keys have gone through due to the weather recently.

KEYS SO CLOSE TO GREAT WIN

Cross Keys could and perhaps should have pulled off a great shock against in-form Pontypridd at Sardis Road last Saturday. Unfortunately a first half performance in which Keys dominated and therefore deservedly led by 12 points to 3 at half time, wasn't exactly repeated in the second half and Keys lost out by 22 points to 12, a scoreline which did flatter the home side somewhat. The referee also seemed to punish Keys a lot more than he did the home side, particularly in the second half deciding to issue 3 yellow cards to Keys during a period towards the end of the game, which ultimately probably cost The Keys this game. Ill-discipline should undoubtably be punished but both sides should be disciplined in the same way if the referee is to be fair, this didn't seem to happen on Saturday. Keys hooker Garry Horrigan saw yellow in the first half whilst in the final 15 minutes yellow cards were issued to Keys full back, Aled Thomas, prop Richard Cornock and Ryan James, compared to a total of one red card being issued to Ponty's replacement prop Nick Eaves. A good performance from Keys which certainly showed plenty of promise but ultimately wasn't enough to turn Ponty over at the house of pain. A match summary is now available in results and fixtures.

PONTY GAME GOES AHEAD

Following a pitch inspection this morning at Sardis Road the visit to Pontypridd goes ahead, despite the awful weather conditions recently. This surely is down to the hardwork of the Ponty ground staff and Keys can now look forward to this game and hopefully provide a shock result. Keys are still to announce the starting lineup for this game.

TEAM TO BE CONFIRMED FOR PONTY MATCH

The Keys have not yet announced the team to take on Pontypridd in this Saturday's Principality Premiership fixture. A number of fitness tests will be ran prior to Kick Off and the team will then be announced on Saturday. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this.

BEDWAS MATCH POSTPONED

The recent league game between Cross Keys and Bedwas was postponed because the referee deemed the surface unplayable. Although both sides were happy to play on a heavy pitch the referee stated that safety is paramount and the match should not go ahead. It means Keys have now had 3 home league games postponed already this season. A new date will be announced soon.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR BEDWAS GAME

The Keys have announced the team to take on Bedwas on Saturday afternoon (6th January). The Keys bring in full back Jonathan 'Utah' Williams for the first time this season following injuries, his return a welcome boost espeicially after his name-sakes injury at Ebbw Vale last week. Also in the Keys 22 is second row Scott Marasco who starts on the bench, he is fit again after breaking a collar bone earlier in the season. Skipper Will Thomas is rested so Keys start with Ben Watkins as captain and second row. A must win game for The Keys so a gap can begin to be created from the lower positions in the league

Cross Keys squad versus Bedwas (home), Sat. 6th January 2007

15. Jonathan 'utah' Williams, 14. David James, 13. David Price, 12. Dan Dark, 11. Marcus Johnstone, 10. Scott Mitchell, 9. Ryan James.

8. Colin Bridges, 7. Geraint Gladwyn, 6. Rhys Williams, 5. Ben Watkins(c), 4. Mark Curtis, 3. Craig Gould, 2. Garry Horrigan, 1. Richard Cornock.

Replacements: Julian Price, Stuart Vokes, Brendon Fisher, Scott Marasco, Wayne Murphy, Owen Jones, Jonathan Hill.

KEYS DEFEATED BY EBBW

The Keys ended a disappointing 2006 with defeat at Eugene Cross Park last Saturday. Keys were by far the better side for the first quarter of this game but wasted several good oppotunities with turnovers and lost ball in tricky conditions. Gradually Ebbw Vale took control of the game and proved why they deserve to end the year as Principality Premiership leaders with a dominating pack playing the conditions correctly. Keys could only manage a score through a Scott Mitchell penalty, midway through the first half. Keys suffered several injury blows in the game but the most serious of which saw replacement full back, Jonathan Williams stretchered off with a potentially serious neck injury. Keys competed well but The Steelmen deserved their victory although a penalty try towards the end of the game perhaps flattered the scorline slightly. Final Score Ebbw Vale 21 - Cross Keys 3. A match summary is now available in results and fixtures.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR EBBW VALE GAME

The Keys have announced the team to take on Ebbw Vale on Saturday afternoon (30th December) in the final game of 2006. The Keys make 9 changes from the side that drew with Newport on Boxing Day. Keys will want to close what has been a disappointing 2006 with a victory to set them up for 2007.

KEYS SHARE SPOILS WITH NEWPORT

Both sides might feel hard done by with not winning this game although The Keys missed too many opportunities through turnovers and several missed goal attempts. None the less this is a valuable point for Keys who had struggled previously against Glamorgan Wanderers and Llandovery. Keys perhaps had the better chances to win the game in this scrappy encounter that saw Yellow Cards issued to Keys' captain, Will Thomas and Newport's former Keys second row, Matthew Veater and also a red card shown to Newport prop Gethin Robinson, for an apparent head butt. Keys scored two tries through Garry Horrigan, his sixth of the season and wing Marcus Johnstone, Jonathan Williams kicked a first half penalty. Standing out inparticular for The Keys, in a good all round performance were Horrigan, Mark Curtis, Rhys Williams and Ben Watkins. Final Score Cross Keys 13 - Newport 13, match summary in results and fixtures.

KEYS DEFEATED BY WANDERERS

Glamorgan Wanderers produced a superb opening 15 minutes which effectively won them the game against The Keys. Keys' might be satisfied with a second half performance which saw them claw the game back but it was the Wanderers all round game that deservedly won them the game. Keys will now have to work hard and try to bounce back from this to defeat Newport on Boxing Day. Final Score Cross Keys 23 - Newport 24. A match summary is available in results and fixtures .

KEYS DEFEATED AT CHRUCH BANK

Cross Keys were defeated by Llandovery in the game played on 9th December. Keys lost the ball far too often in the tackle areas and also, at times lost out in the set piece area. Keys scored two late tries, through Dan Dark and Ben Watkins to give hope of what would have been a shock victory, given the pattern of the game through-out but the comeback wasn't to be and Keys were defeated by 22 points to 16. KEYS GAIN WIN AGAINST SWANSEA

Cross Keys survived a second half comback from a Swansea side who seemed determined to win towards the later part of the game. It was a strong first half performance, in which Keys dominated that enabled Keys to get the 3 points from the game. Keys scored 2 tries through impressive full back, Jonathan Williams, his first for the club and Rhys Williams, who was his usual hard working self in this game. Scott Mitchell kicked 5 points with a conversion and penalty goal. Keys may have tried their best to give this game away with a disappointing second half performance, although did deserve this victory with their overall performance. A match summary can be found in the results and fixtures section. Final Score Cross Keys 15 - Swansea 11.

KEYS WIN TREDEGAR FRIENDLY

Last Thursday evening Keys finally got some rugby under their belt and visited a cold and damp Recreation Ground to play Tredegar. After the frustrating postponements of the games against Aberavon and Maesteg, Keys picked a strong side to start the game and took the opportunity in the second half to look at some the squad players. Keys came away with a hard-fought 30-5 victory and scored tries through Lee Humphreys(x2), Garry Horrigan(x2), Colin Bridges and Jonathan Hill, no conversions or kicks at goal were taken as the referee played the midweek floodlit alliance rules. A useful game for Keys who were tested throughout by a determined Tredegar side.

TREDEGAR FRIENDLY MATCH ARRANGED

Keys have arranged a friendly match against Tredegar on Thursday evening (23/11/06) at The Recreation Ground, Tredegar. Kick Off is not confirmed although will probably be at 7.15pm. Keys will want to get some rugby under their belt and the Division 2 East side will surely provide their usual stern test.

MATCH POSTPONED DUE TO WATERLOGGED PITCH

SUPERB WIN FOR THE KEYS AT NEATH

Cross Keys produced one of the greatest shock results since the new look semi-pro Premiership took effect. Keys were in a confident mood from the kick off and always were the team that looked more likely to gain victory. The last time Keys tasted victory at the Gnoll was 1963 when they came away with a 3-0 victory. Given the sticky conditions Keys played the conditions much better than the reigning champions, and despite being down to 14 man for a large period of the game (around 35 minutes in total), with yellow cards being issued to back row men Colin Bridges and Geraint Gladwyn, then Gladwyn being given his marching orders with a red card on around 65 minutes Keys hung on to claim a great result. Every player wore the jersey with great pride and did Cross Keys proud to come away with this result that very few people would have backed before the game. WELL DONE BOYS. A match summary can be found in Results and Fixtures. Final Score Neath 6 - Cross Keys 10!

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR NEATH GAME

The Welsh All Blacks will welcome Keys to the Gnoll and may consider Keys as the Rustlers following last seasons infamous 'Bull-Gate' scenario!

Keys will also host Maesteg on Friday the 10th of November in the Principality Premiership, again kick off is at 7.15pm.

HONOURS EVEN IN EXCITING ENCOUNTER

Cross Keys and Llanelli could not be sperated in this lively game at Pandy Park last Saturday. Both sides were fully committed to the cause and produced a great advert for Principality Premiership rugby. Given the sometimes torrential weather conditions during the game both teamss were intent on playing fast and expansive rugby and did not disappoint. Keys perhaps had the better opportunities to win the game, although on reflection a draw is perhaps an accurate result at the end of the day. Keys once again had Rhys Williams in outstanding form and it was his try that levelled the scores. Final score Cross Keys 18 - Llanelli 18. A match summary can be found in Results and Fixtures.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR LLANELLI GAME

KEYS DEFEATED AT ARMS PARK

Cardiff gained revenge for their defeat at home to The Keys last season with a victory last Saturday afternoon. The scoreline definitely flattered the Blue and Blacks (although this has not been pointed out in any other reports following the game!) and perhaps Keys can feel slightly aggreived at some inconsistent decision making by the officials on the day. None the less Keys can learn a lot from this defeat and the spirit shown by the whole squad during and after the game was excellent, despite 2 late Cardiff tries in the last 5 minutes which just about summed up Keys luck on the day. The game was there to be won during the second half but failure to take advantage of a one man advantage with the score at 27-26, to the home side was crucial. A match summary can be found in the Results and fixtures section. Final Score - Cardiff 44 - Cross Keys 26.

MILLER INJURES ANKLE

Keys were dealt a massive blow prior to Kick Off on Saturday afternoon, with the news that hooker Rhys Miller suffered a suspected broken ankle in the warm up and now faces another long spell on the sidelines. Miller also suffered a servere knee injury at Maesteg earlier in 2006. All the best Rhys - get fit soon.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR CARDIFF GAME

Replacements: Brendon Fisher, Garry Horrigan, Julian Price, Mark Curtis, Geraint Gladwyn, James Pizey, Dan Dark.

PONTY OVERWHELMED BY THE KEYS

Cross Keys gained an impressive victory over visiting Pontypridd on Saturday 7th October. Keys played with more conviction than the opposition, in both attack and defence. This victory showed that Keys were not down after the disapointing defeat to Ebbw Vale last time out. Keys scored a total of 5 tries through wing David James (x2), hooker Gary Horrigan (x2) and The Dragons centre Gareth Chapman, who was again a great help to Keys' cause. Keys played some superb rugby and seemed to outclass Ponty in just about every department. The final score was Cross Keys 39 - Pontypridd 6. Match Summary available in Results and fixtures section.

TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR PONTYPRIDD GAME

Replacements: Sergio Padrisa, Rhys Miller, Dan Evans, Colin Bridges, Wayne Murphy, Owen Jones, Dan Dark.

SECOND HALF FIGHTBACK PROVES UNSUCCESSFUL

A game of 2 halves was definately applied to this entertaining Gwent derby. Keys eventually were defeated by 15 points to 11 by an Ebbw Vale side whose first half performance and also opportunity taking proved vital. Keys went into the half time break 12 - 0 down and there appeared to be no way back. In the second half, however Keys, playing up hill came back strong and were able to pull themselves back to within one point with a well worked try from Gareth Williams and 2 Jonathan Williams' penalties. The Steelmen clinched victory with a Sam Mills penalty with around 10 minutes to go. Keys were camped on Vale's try line for the last 5 minutes of normal time and also into extra time but could not find a way through a well organised and determined Ebbw Vale defence. Final Score Cross Keys 11 - Ebbw Vale 15. Match Summary available in results and fixtures section.

KEYS COMPLETE GOOD WIN AGAINST WANDERERS

Cross Keys early season blues away from home were all but forgotten when they defeated Glamorgan Wanderers at the Memorial Ground. Wanderers may have started the day as the Principality Premiership leaders but it was Keys who deservedly came away with the 3 points in what was an encouraging display away from Pandy Park. Keys scored a total of 4 tries from Gareth Turner (x2), Rhys Williams and Marcus Johnstone, whilst Scott Mitchell kicked 12 points with 2 penalties and 3 conversions. Dragons full back Aled Thomas once again had a great game in Keys colours as did Number 8 Rhys Williams and also Turner who not only took his 2 tries well but also was involved in almost every Keys attack. Final Score Glam. Wdrs. 25 - Cross Keys 32. Match Summary available in results and fixtures section.

KEYS GAIN FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Cross Keys are off the mark and will hope that the victory against Llandovery will kick start their season. Keys comfortably defeated the Drovers with an impressive 6 try victory. This was an excellent win for The Keys who, for the first time this season used the ball with great effect and looked odds on to win, more or less from the first whistle. Keys scored tries through 6 different scorers - David James, on his debut went over for the opening try of the game and further tries came from outstanding number 8, Rhys Williams, David Price, Rhys Miller, David Tovey and the Dragons, former Keys centre Gareth Chapman, who with his try scored his 100th try in all league games. RAVENS DEFEAT THE KEYS

Bridgend defeated Cross Keys in the Principality Premiership on Saturday afternoon. Keys made too many basic errors and failed to take advantage of a good start to the second half. At this point last season Keys were amongst the top clubs in the division and had not conceded a try, or really look like doing so in their opening 4 games, this season Keys find themselves at the bottom of the table at this early stage. Keys scored a try by debutant wing, Gareth Williams and scored 8 points from the boot of Jonathan Williams. Keys were defeated by 35 points to 13. A match summary is available in results and fixtures.

SQUAD FOR BRIDGEND TRIP

Replacements: Brendan Fisher, Garry Horrigan, Sergio Padrisa, Mark Curtis, Scott Marasco, Ryan James, David Price.

POOR START FOR THE KEYS

Cross Keys suffered defeat at the hands of Bedwas in the opening Principality Premiership game on Saturday 2rd September. Keys really seemed to lack the ambition and drive that Bedwas seemed to use to great effect, Keys also lost the ball far too often and will have to improve several areas of their game if the 2006/2007 season is to be a success. Keys scored a penalty goal through Scott Mitchell for their only points of the game and season so far. Final score Bedwas 18 - Cross Keys 3. A full summary appears in the results and fixtures section.

Keys scored tries through: outside half Nathan Hopkins, debut-making flanker Wayne Murphy, Lee Humphries, Tom Lampard, Richard East, Wayne Sims, Dan Evans, David James and Ryan James. Keys have completed the signings of 3 more players who are, Jonathan Hill, a centre formally with Cardiff, hooker Stuart Volkes who was playing for Markham last year having only recently come out of youth rugby and flanker Wayne Murphy has also signed from Cardiff. All 3 are sure to be excellent signings and will surely add a lot to the Keys squad this season.

BIG WIN FOR KEYS AGAINST OLD BOYS

Keys continued their good start to pre-season action by defeating Newport High School Old Boys at Pandy Park on Wednesday 16th August. Number 8, Rhys Williams was again influential for The Keys, as he was for pretty much all of last season also Grant Wilson impressed in his first game for Keys for over a year as did fellow second row Scott Marasco whose work rate against the Old Boys was excellent, as it was against Newport Saracens. Keys are building an excellent young squad and all players who took part on Wednesday evening deserve a lot of credit although there were a few opportunities that Keys perhaps should have finished off. Final Score - Cross Keys 73 - Newport HSOB 5. The full scorers were:-

Tries: Rhys Williams (x3), Gareth Williams (x2), David Tovey (x2), one try each - David James, Gareth Hassell, Ross Jones, Dan Evans. Conversions: Scott Mitchell (x5), Nathan Hopkins (x3), Ryan James (x1).

SARRIES DEFEATED BY KEYS

A new look Cross Keys team, which contained several players on trial overcame Newport Saracens in the recent pre-season trial game played at Pandy Park on Saturday 12th August. Tries for The Keys came from Tom Lampard, Jimmy Morris, Stuart Volkes and Mark McKee. Scotty Mitchell added one conversion and new fly-half Nathan Hopkins getting the other successful conversion. The final score was Cross Keys 24 - Newport Saracens 15.

LOCAL LAD IS NEW CAPTAIN

Cross Keys born and bred, Will Thomas has been handed the ultimate honour of captaining his home town team for next season. Thomas will take over from Tyron Morris who is still recovering from the knee injury that sidelined him for all of last season. Will, who was once a ball boy for the club has described the announcement as 'a huge honour' and we are sure he will handle the captaincy very well and wish him the best for the coming season.

PRE-SEASON GAMES

Cross Keys will play 3 pre-season games this summer. They will start with a game against Welsh Division 1 east side Newport Saracens on Saturday August 12th at Pandy Park. Keys will then travel to Oxfordshire and play Chinnor, who are the South-West English league division one champions and will therefore play in English National league 3 south in 2006/2007. This game will take place on Saturday August 19th, Keys will finalise their 2006/07 season preperations with a home game against Fleur-de-Lys again from Welsh Division 1 east, on Saturday 26th August. An announcement on the Dragons versus. Gwent Premier Select XV will be made very soon.

INTERNATIONAL SIGNINGS FOR KEYS

Cross Keys have signed Fijian back row Sitaveni Rabuli and also Spanish international prop Sergio Padrisa who previously played for Newport High School Old Boys. Rabuli is a sevens specialist and has been playing for the British Army, based a Beachley Barracks in Chepstow. Keys have also signed UWIC outside half Nathan Hopkins who will compete for the number 10 shirt with Scott Mitchell. All three players are very welcome and we are sure will be great assets to the club.

NEW FACES FOR KEYS

The Keys have made some new signings for the 2006/2007 season. Pontypool scrum half Owen Jones has joined following Poolers relegation from the Principality Premiership. Also joining will be prolific try scorer David James, a winger/centre from Blackwood he will be joined by Newbridge back row Colin Bridges and David Brake from Caerphilly who is also a back row. Keys have also signed experienced prop Brendan Fisher from Caerphilly and young Blackwood wing Gareth Williams, Fisher played previously for Keys 5 years ago. Meanwhile prop Ian George has joined Ebbw Vale whilst Justin Thomas has retired after an excellent career than saw him win 9 Wales caps in the mid-90s. Also leaving Keys will be Nathan Williams who has joined rivals Newport, perhaps tempted by the possibility of regional rugby with The Dragons.

THOMAS IS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Will Thomas was named The Keys player of the year at the presentation night held on May 19th 2006. Thomas has been consistant all season and has also led from the front when he has captained the side on several occasions. Prop Richard Cornock was named as best prospect and Tom Lampard took both the players player of the year and most improved player awards. The captains award was shared between Tyron Morris and Ben Watkins and Jonathan Williams took the top points scorer award. This group of award winners have all signed for next season.
